Celebrate World Standards Day - 14 October 2021

Each year on 14 October, the members of the IEC, ISO and ITU celebrate World Standards Day, which is a means of paying tribute to the collaborative efforts of thousands of experts worldwide who develop the voluntary technical agreements that are published as International Standards. World Standards Day 2021 is about our shared vision for a better world.

The need for accurate measurement results that are comparable between laboratories anywhere in the world has never been greater. To achieve this, one needs International Standards. An essential tool for the effective implementation of these Standards are metrologically traceable reference materials for use in the calibration and validation of measurement methods. These are known as certified reference materials or CRMs. Reference materials in general also play an important part in other aspects of quality assurance in testing, and as such ISO TC 334 wishes to support this initiative annually on this day.
