Dear Reader

ISO/TC 334 is the ISO Committee for Reference materials.  The committee carries out and encourages a broad international effort for the harmonization and promotion of the production and use of reference materials.  TC 334’s vision is to be the global centre of excellence with respect to issues relating to reference materials.

The objectives of ISO/TC 334 are:

  • To establish concepts, terms and definitions related to reference materials
  • To specify the basic characteristics of reference materials as required by their intended use
  • To propose actions on reference materials required to support other ISO activities
  • To prepare guidelines for ISO technical committees when dealing with reference material issues
  • To communicate with other international organizations on reference material matters
  • To advise the ISO Technical Management Board (TMB) on reference material issues

TC 334 has many stakeholders including standardisations bodies, who are the members of ISO, metrology institutes as well as international and regional liaison partners.  The clients of TC 334 includes ISO technical committees for whom TC 334 serves in a horizontal advisory function.  Other clients include the users of reference materials (e.g. testing and calibration laboratories), the producers of reference materials and accreditation bodies (in particular for reference material (RM) producers).

In this website you will find information about all the guidance documents related to the production and use of reference materials developed by ISO/TC 334.  Your are welcome to contact us if you have any questions or queries related to reference materials.
