ISO/TC 296 2021 Plenary Meeting Went Virtual

"This is a fruitful meeting, as last year is a fruitful year for TC 296: with your efforts and contribution, TC 296 has published 5 International Standards in the past twelve months. Congratulations!" Chairperson FEI said.

Due to the continuous Covid-19 global pandemic, the Central Secretariat of ISO required all technical committees to take online meetings. In order to continue our work, ISO / TC 296 Secretariat decided to hold the plenary meeting through Zoom online meeting platform, the same as last year's annual meeting.

Seven P-member countries, three O-member countries, and one liaison organizations sent a total of 49 delegates to the virtual meeting: China(SAC), Colombia(ICONTEC), Ghana(GSA), Indonesia(BSN), Malaysia(DSM), Nepal(NBSM), Nigeria(SON), Philippines(BPS), Russian Federation(GOST R), Uganda(UNBS); ISO/TC 6 Paper, board and pulps and the International Organization for Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR).

Committee manager Dr. Changhua FANG made a report on the annual work of the secretariat, which achieved much progress in supporting our committee and kept all projects on the right track during the past year.

It was also fortunate to have our TPM, Dr. Anna Rossi, at the virtual meeting who introduced in her presentation the changes of ISO Directives and the pilot OSD(Online Standards Development) platform. Four WG convenors each made a report on their work in the past year. One NWIP Bamboo drinking straw was presented by SAC and inspired questions and discussions among delegates from all countries. Despite the limit of time and means, delegates still showed strong support to the committee as always.

By the end of the meeting, nine resolutions were adopted unanimously. The dedication and contribution of our expert community are immensely appreciated. Since 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic has been expanding. We sincerely wish that all of our delegates and families stay safe and sound! We genuinely hope to meet each other in person again in the future.
