A Historic Milestone: The First ISO Standard For Bamboo Drinking Straws
To address this need, ISO/TC 296 has published ISO 16830:2025, the first international standard for Bamboo As A Substitute For Plastic (BASP) products. This standard established global benchmarks for bamboo drinking straw production, ensuring quality, consistency, and sustainability.
By setting clear guidelines for manufacturing and performance, ISO 16830:2025 plays a crucial role in advancing bamboo as a mainstream alternative to plastic straws. It also leverages the world’s abundant bamboo resources, supporting efforts to reduce plastic waste and combat environmental challenges.
