New edition of ISO 22300 published

Stefan Tangen, the Project leader of ISO 22300 and also Convenor of Working Group 1 Terminology, explains:

”ISO 22300 is of great importance since it includes the common terminology for all our work in the committee. It ensures that we use a consistent language and that our standards are easy to understand. All standards in the ISO 223xx family makes a normative reference to ISO 22300 and it can therefore be used to clarify terms when reading all documents from ISO/TC 292.”

 

What’s new?  

ISO 22300 has evolved over the years and the following changes should be noted in this edition:

• New focus and direction
  While previous editions have included ALL terms that can be found in ISO/TC 292 documents, this version has been limited to mostly include generic terms that are considered to be used often in ISO/TC 292 documents. Very specific terms applicable to a single standard in the committee have therefore been removed. Specific terms and definitions can instead be found in the particular standard that they are used in, but will no longer be part of the common language of the committee. In practice, this change in direction has resulted in a that the 4th edition of ISO 22300 is much shorter than the previous and describe in total 130 terms. 
   
• Generic definitions
  All definitions from previous edition have been reviewed and changes have been made to ensure that the definitions are written from a generic point of view and suitable from all kind of topics within the broad scope of ISO/TC 292.  
   
• Logical structure
  The readibility of ISO 22300 has been improved and it has a more logical structure making it easier to find terms. The standard is organised into the following three categories:
  • 3.1 Terms related to security and resilience
  • 3.2 Terms related to risk
  • 3.3 Terms related to management systems
