Water reuse can diminish impacts of water scarcity to improve sustainability of water supplies.
Why reuse? Droughts can impact water sources and the need for water is greater than the supply.
Why Standards? Standards are developed with the knowledge from countries that have had water supply issues for a long time. We build upon that knowledge for reuse of water when needed in other parts of the world with little to no experience to inform them on what steps they should follow.

Wastewater Reuse for agricultural, residential or Industry purposes have been used in arid and semi arid lands to provide water for uses that do not require drinking water quality. Technical Committee 282 (Water reuse) has and is developing standards for Treated wastewater reuse for irrigation Sub Committee 1(SC1), Water reuse in urban areas (SC2), Risk and performance evaluation of water reuse systems (SC3) and Industrial water reuse (SC4).
