Voices from the 5th National Conference on Water Treatment and Reuse of China
The 5th National Conference on Water Treatment and Reuse of China (ChinaWTR-2021) was held successfully in Suzhou, China, between April 16-18, 2021. The conference has attracted over 1200 delegates from universities, institutes, authorities, government sectors and industries to attend. 9 well-known speakers from the United States, Australia, Ireland and other countries were invited to give keynote presentations onsite or online.
The ChinaWTR conference was launched by the Committee of Water Treatment and Reuse, Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences (CSES) and chaired by Professor Hong-Ying Hu from the School of Environment, Tsinghua University. It aims to provide a unique platform for local communication and also to broaden concepts, ideas and models for water reuse globally. The theme of the ChinaWTR-2021 is Water Reuse and Green and Low-Carbon Development and topics are about cutting-edge scientific issues and key technologies, industrial practices and management policies on water treatment and reuse. There were 22 parallel sessions in the conference and over 280 speakers gave presentations on the latest progresses and trends in water treatment and reuse.
The CSES committee devotes to promoting research and innovative development on water treatment and reuse theories, technologies, engineering, standards and management; bringing together networks for professionals from the academia and industry, cultivating talented individuals; and undertaking scientific knowledge education and propagation activities. It follows the concept of “one water, beyond water” and advocates academic communication and discussion with a high degree of professionalism, expertise, applicability and practicability.
The CSES committee has organized the ChinaWTR conferences since 2017. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th conferences were successfully held in Shaoxing, Qingdao, Guangzhou and Xi’an respectively. The conferences have provided good platforms for discussing in-depth issues related to wastewater treatment, water reuse and water environment management. The conferences are highly appraised by experts and scholars nationwide and overseas including France, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Australia, U.S. and Sri Lanka.
