Facilities Management (FM) through the ISO 41000 series recognizes the importance of standards in the pursuit of improving the quality of life of people and the productivity of the core business activities.  FM is uniquely placed as the integrator of people, place, processes and technology across our Built Environment.

World Standards Day PosterFM wishes to celebrate World Standards Day 2020 and endorse this years’ theme of Protecting the Planet with Standards

FM aligns the facility capability and functionality with a demand organization’s mission and resources. The adoption of standards empowers FM professionals to be systematic, innovative and respond to the ever-changing requirements.

The ISO 41000 series promotes systems and standards to keep organizations operational and people safe, this has been particularly relevant during the COVID-19 global pandemic.  Specifically ISO 41001:2018 provides for managing risk; business continuity and emergency preparedness; consideration of interested parties and of financial, technical and organizational requirements; undertaking internal and external communications; and ensuring the suitability, adequacy and effectiveness of FM performance.

Adoption of FM standards is also a practical means of supporting the UN’s sustainable development goals to enhance global reliance and sustainability, as demonstrated by the recent identification of the ISO 41000 series’ 53 alignments with the SDGs.

On behalf of the 48 member countries of ISO/TC267, this 14 October we wish you a very  Happy World Standards Day 2020.
