Dr Sabrina Pit, member of the working group ISO Learning and Development, presented about sustainable employability at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum “The role Standardisation is playing in promoting Employment related to the Silver Economy” hosted by the China National Institute of Standardization 19-20 September 2019. She informed the audience of the Working Group that is developing the new ISO Learning and Development standard and explained what sustainable employability means. Life long learning was recognized by many participants as a key solution and opportunity. Life long learning was mentioned in many presentations and discussions and seen as important across the different APEC economies. To have a sustainable career, people need to embrace life long learning and be given the opportunity to do so. For example, a Chinese example was about developing new strategies to improve workforce participation among people from rural and remote areas in the silver economy. The role of standardization in learning and development through improving skills and competencies was seen as crucial. The ISO Learning and Development standard can assist in this area.
