ISO/TC 207/SC 7/WG 11 is developing a new standard on adaptation to Climate Change. The new standard will provide guidance to organizations for assessing risks, impacts and vulnerability. The new standard is ISO 14091 Adaptation to Climate Change – Vulnerability, impacts and risk assessment.

This International Standard provides guidance for assessing the risks related to the impacts of climate change. It describes how to understand vulnerability and how to develop and implement a sound risk assessment and is applicable for assessing both present and future climate change risks.

This International Standard is targeted at all kinds of organizations, primarily to regional and local administrations as well as private and public businesses, to direct their efforts in enhancing climate change adaptation. It guides governments at various levels and businesses of any size and sector on identifying priorities for climate change adaptation actions. It supports the user to address climate change risks by fostering current, medium and long-term adaptation actions.

Risk assessment according to this International Standard provides a solid basis for climate change adaptation planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
