ISO 14006 Environmental management systems – Guidelines for incorporating ecodesign

Introduction

ISO 14006 was published in 2011. Following consultation with National Member Bodies (NMB) it was decided in late 2016 to revise the standard and the expert working group prepared the Draft International Standard (DIS) which was approved by the National Member Bodies on 19th October 2018. The working group experts will meet in Sweden at the end November to review comments and prepare the final draft.

Mandate for revision

The revision of ISO 14006 shall consider:

  • the new editions of ISO 14001:2015, ISO 14004:2016 and other relevant standards;
  • the principles and concepts of design and development in the latest edition of ISO 14001;
  • the high level structure (HLS), identical core text and common terms and core definitions of Annex SL Appendix 2 of the ISO Directives Part 1;
  • that the revised standard should be independent of the numbering and exact wording used in ISO 14001, any other relevant standard and Annex SL Appendix 2 so that it will not be automatically necessary to revise ISO 14006 every time either ISO 14001 or any other relevant standard is revised.

Specifically, the revision shall:

  • avoid overlap with IEC/ISO JWG ECD 62959;
  • take into account TC207's decision on the review of ISO/TR 14062;
  • look to produce a standalone standard.
