Collaboration with CEN TC 293

Several of ISO/TC 173 standardization projects are developed within the framework of Vienna Agreement with a parallel procedure in CEN. In addition CEN/TC 293 is developing a few own European Standards in the following domains: wheelchairs, tactile lettering, and accessibility. CEN/TC 293 is also cooperating with ISO/TC 168 Prosthetics and orthotics. 

Structure of CEN/TC 293:
WG 1 Walking aids, joint work with ISO/TC 173 WG 1, ISO lead
WG 5 Prostheses and orthoses joint work with ISO/TC 168, ISO lead
WG 9 Wheelchairs, EN 12183 and EN 12184
WG 12 Accessibility
WG 13 Tactile lettering  

Scope of CEN/TC 293:
Standardization in the field of assistive products and related services including interoperability/interface between assistive and mainstream products to achieve accessibility. Standardization addressing general accessibility aspects of mainstream products, e.g. packaging, instructions for use, information, service development processes, not excluding other fields.
