2020 TC 106 Went Virtual

2020 TC 106 Went Virtual

By Katie Lee

For the first time in 56 years, TC 106's annual meeting went completely virtual due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

Traditionally, the ISO/TC 106 meetings consists of approximately 50 working group meetings, 8 Sub committee plenaries, and the TC 106 plenary, over 5 days, however this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the meetings were greatly impacted. The meetings this year took place virtually, over 9 days, and 30 working group meetings took place, while 2 Subcommittees chose to have plenaries, and the meeting culminated on the last day with the TC 106 plenary.

It was a new way for all of us to work as a group, and it worked well.

A highlight of the meeting was Dr. Arne Hensten being awarded a Certificate of Appreciation. Dr. Hensten has served ISO/TC 106 for more than 40 years, as an expert with many working groups, and the Head of Delegation for Norway. Dr. Hensten was instrumental in Norway hosting the ISO/TC 106 meetings two times, in Lillehammer and Tromsø. Dr. Hensten has also served as a convener with ISO/TC 194.

It was with great pleasure that we were able to award Dr. Hensten with the Certificate of Appreciation, that he was able to accept virtually at the TC 106 plenary.

We look forward to seeing all the delegates next year, in San Diego, California.
